Thermocouples

Miniature robust sensors with short response times and resistant sensors for measuring temperatures in extreme conditions up to 2,000°C. RÖSSEL-Messtechnik supplies thermocouples in various designs, from sheathed thermocouples and high-temperature thermocouples to custom designs.

Resistance thermometers

Resistance thermometers are high-precision, durable sensors designed to measure temperatures between -196°C and +850°C. We offer a number of resistance thermometer models with various thermowells and measuring inserts.

Transducers

Convert thermometer signals into analog, digital or bus signals using our transducers. RÖSSEL-Messtechnik supplies transducers with various design and installation options.

Connecting cables

We provide thermocouple cables, compensation cables and copper conductors, and develop process-optimized cables for high-voltage applications or ignition cables for gas turbines, for example.

Connectors

We’ve partnered up with leading connector manufacturers to develop connectors with various designs and properties for technical applications for signal coupling with thermocouples and resistance thermometers.

What are contact thermometers?

The term contact thermometer refers to all thermometers that come into direct contact with the medium, the temperature of which needs to be measured. Contact thermometers include expansion thermometers (liquid and bimetal thermometers) and all electrical and electronic thermometers used with temperature sensors.
Industrial contact thermometers consists of the thermosensitive elements (e.g., thermocouple or Pt100) installed in a thermowell or immersion tube for protection. In many cases, the tube features a plug-in socket to connect electrical cables.
This entire structure is standardized and referred to as a measuring insert. Measuring inserts may be equipped with a thermowell and connection head. Together, the thermowell and connection head form the thermowell assembly. The thermowell assembly protects the sensitive measuring insert against mechanical and chemical stress, and the terminals against contamination and moisture.

What are active and passive sensors?

The question of whether a sensor is active or passive depends on whether the sensor independently generates a signal and is therefore active, or a signal is generated using auxiliary energy, making the sensor passive.
Thermocouples are one example of active sensors as they generate thermoelectric voltage due to ambient conditions that can be displayed with a purely analog display measuring device.
Passive sensors traditionally include all resistance-based, capacitive or inductive sensors, and therefore also resistance thermometers. They require a measuring current that is fed via the measuring device. This auxiliary energy is then modulated due to environmental influences and can be evaluated as a signal. With passive sensors, self-heating needs to be taken into account as it can influence the measurement results. As a result, the measuring current for resistance thermometers is typically limited to ≤ 1 mA.
